Gym owners are constantly complaining to me that every time they try and do promotion via Groupon or Yelp! They get bombarded with penny-pinching, free-trial hoarding gym hoppers who aren’t ready to commit to a monthly contract.
When a new MMA gym opened in an already competitive market, I convinced the owner to run the exact same promotion as Groupon, but instead, run the offer on Facebook & Instagram using super-specific geo-targeting.
While Groupon customers were innately pricing cautious, those who took the free offer sent via Facebook Ads became members at a 4:1 rate compared to customers who came from Groupon.
Within 2 months of working together, we were able to generate so many inbound student requests that the gym ultimately had to shut down ads for several months due to capacity issues.
